50/50 vs 70/30 Perforation: What the Numbers Mean
Perforated film is sold with a ratio such as 50/50 or 70/30. The first number is usually the printed (solid) face percentage; the second is open hole area — but always confirm with the product sheet, because vendors label slightly differently.
Practical differences
- More open area (for example a higher hole percentage) generally improves outward visibility and lets more light into the cabin or store.
- More solid area makes exterior artwork look denser and more “poster-like,” especially for fine text and detailed logos.
Fine type and thin lines suffer first as open area increases. Bold shapes, solid color blocks, and high-contrast logos hold up better.
Choosing for storefronts vs vehicles
Storefronts that prioritize walk-by impact often lean toward denser print faces. Vehicle rear windows often prioritize outward visibility and heat/light balance — which pushes toward more open patterns when local rules allow perforated graphics at all.
